Cricket:
Cricket South Africa says it will consider hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in September. ICC executives have recommended South Africa as a venue due to unpredictable weather in Sri Lanka.
Jacques Kallis will captain the Proteas in the third test against Australia and not Ashwell Prince. Cricket bosses say they want the returning Prince to concentrate on his new role of opening batsman. Meanwhile, Kallis has withdrawn from the Chevrolet Warriors team to play the Titans today due to a hand injury.
JP Duminy's been included in the Nashua Cape Cobras side to take on the Nashua Dolphins in Pietermaritzburg. Hashim Amla will be in action for the home side. Cobras coach Shukri Conrad has resisted the urge to make many changes...
The Proteas w! omen suffered a crushing 199 run defeat to New Zealand at the Cricket World Cup in Australia. New Zealand scored 250 for 5 in 50 overs and South Africa were 51 all out in 22 overs.
Rugby:
New Zealand Rugby have revealed the match schedule for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. The Springboks' first match is in Wellington against Wales on the 11th of September. The All Blacks will kick-off the tournament against Tonga on the 9th of September in Auckland. Wellington will also host a quarterfinal between the Boks and either Australia, Ireland or Italy. The final will be played at Eden Park in Auckland on the 23rd of October.
The Vodacom Stormers have made four changes ahead of the Super 14 match against the A and G Lions at Newlands on Saturday. Nick Koster replaces Tonderai Chavhanga on the right wing and Sireli Naqelevuki returns to the left wing. Schalk Burger and Adriaan Fondse are also back in the starting lin! e-up. Santos are through to the next round of the Nedbank Cup after a 2-1 over Milano United at Athlone Stadium. Swallows beat Wits 3-1 in an all premiership clash. Peace Lovers beat Real Madrid 1-0.
In the UEFA Champions League, Porto are through on away goals after a goalless draw against Atletico Madrid. Barcelona thrashed Lyon 5-2 to go through. Arsenal went through on penalties after a 1-0 defeat to Roma. Man United went through to the quarterfinals after a 2-0 win over Inter.
In the English Premier League, Blackburn beat Fulham 2-1.
